Acupuncture seeks to rebalance the body’s homeostasis, (the maintenance of a stable environment).Clinical evidence supports claims of acupuncture triggering a demonstratable alteration in the production and secretion of neurotransmitters and hormones which control sensory perception, homeostasis and immune response. Acupuncture has been shown to measurably increase vagus nerve activity inhibiting cytokine production,a precursor to inflammation.

What is a treatment like?
After an initial assessment and exam, a number of very fine sterile needles are shallowly inserted at various acupuncture points. A heat lamp may be directed over the needles, imparting a warm relaxing sensation. In some cases mild electric stimulation may be applied to the needles creating a gentle pulsing to facilitate the flow of energy. After 30 minutes the needles are removed and massage may be administered. How many treatments are needed? Acute cases are the easiest to treat and may require 1-3 treatments to achieve resolution. Chronic cases, on the other hand, may require 10-15 treatments to resolve signs and symptoms. Does health insurance cover treatment? Yes, but call your provider to check that your plan includes acupuncture treatment. How does Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine work? Acupuncture is not a cure but a tool to help manage the symptoms and pain associated with a wide variety of diseases. Acupuncture seeks to rebalance the body’s homeostasis (the maintenance of a stable internal environment). A healthy person should not have to endure pain, but should experience a sense of well-being and have energy for the workday and the ability to rest and sleep at night. Unfortunately many people suffer from chronic fatigue and/or insomnia. Acupuncture can effectively treat a wide variety of complaints by using fine gauge sterile needles along pathways, or meridians, to rebalance the body’s energy and blood - without the administration of drugs. Acupuncture does notinterfere with prescription drugs a patient may already be taking. Clinical evidence supports claims of acupuncture triggering demonstrable alteration in the production and secretion of neurotransmitters and hormones, which control sensory perception, homeostasis, and immune response. Acupuncture has been shown to measurably increase vagus nerve activity inhibiting cytokine production - a precursor to inflammation. What is the cost? Your initial 75 minute appointment includes a consultation with treatment. Subsequent treatments are $60 each and last 1 hour. A receipt is available upon request if you'd like to submit it to your insurance company for reimbursement. |
