              YOGA IS BELIEVED TO HAVE ORIGINATED 5000-6000 YEARS AGO!

              Yoga is NOT a religion but a physical and psychological discipline that is understandable and doable by any age and fitness level. Yoga literally means "union" and so Yoga practice seeks to unite both body and mind.

              There are many benefits to beginning a Flow Yoga practice or adding a Yoga class to your current fitness routine. They are simple:

              • Become stronger
              • Become more flexible
              • Find balance in both your mind & body
              • Learn to relax & understand the movements of your body
              • Some cardiovascular conditioning
              • Breathe easier
              • Relieve or prevent back pain and other aches & pains
              • Have time to yourself & your thoughts

              We offer two types of Yoga classes, taught mornings and evenings:

              Gentle Yoga is a longer, 75 minute class, where poses are simpler, held longer, and the focus is on slowing the body and mind down. Relaxation will last longer. All levels are welcome and encouraged as slower movement creates deeper connections in both the mind & body.Flow Yoga is a standard 55 minute class that will challenge your mind and body to open itself to new and different movements. All levels are welcome as there is always a modification to every movement to make sure no one is excluded, whether you are looking for something easier or more challenging.

              RHONDA'S YOGA STYLE

              As with most Yoga teachers, Rhonda teaches in a highly personalized Vinyasa flow style that is an eclectic mix of Viniyoga, Ashtanga, and Iyengar.  That simply means that your yoga journey will begin by tuning into your breath and what is going on within your body at a specific moment in time. Then in that moment, you will begin to add movements to bring you into traditional ASANAS (poses), where you will learn harmonious body alignment.  Focus is then brought to the breath again to continue with another movement to the next pose. The yoga practice is rhythmic in nature & will allow you to flow from one pose to another. Each class will end with relaxation, where various breathing & relaxation techniques will be taught.

              WHAT TO EXPECT

              If you are new to Flow Yoga and prefer to learn-as-you-go, Rhonda has some thoughts:
              ~~~~~
              You'll find that Yoga is probably quite different from other forms of exercise. Unlike traditional exercise, yoga is a journey and a continuous practice to harmonize breath, movement and your mind.  A yoga practice challenges you to test the capabilities of your body while letting go of judgment of yourself and others.
              Progress may feel slow at first. Expect to take 3 classes relatively close together before making a judgment about yoga practice.
              The first class will focus on learning how to sit still and listen to your breath.  You will learn how to make basic transitions safely from pose to pose and balancing your body's movements, left & right and front & back. Creating a balanced body is important because most of us spend our day sitting, standing, or doing things in one direction. This balanced approach may feel awkward at first.
              The second class will make more sense because you will be used to your surroundings, closing your eyes & not worrying about what yoga is supposed to look like. You will remember how to use the weaker side of your body, and learn to “settle into the pose” or get out quickly if it doesn’t feel right.  You will automatically inhale when you lift up or expand your lungs, and exhale when you are stretching, folding or releasing tension.  This will help you stabilize into poses and make them instantly easier.
              By the third class you will start to notice changes. You will be able to relax at the end without wanting to get up and go do something active. You will feel more rejuvenated as your body will start to feel stronger & leaner.  The practice of yoga will start to feel like a genuine practice, something you can get better at.  There will be subtle changes in your sleeping habits, digestion, and mood.  You might not be able to pinpoint it, but something will be different.
              So, do your body and mind a favor and commit to just 3 yoga classes. You just might find that you love Yoga too.
              Please send Rhonda an email if you have any questions about Yoga.
